Bill Condon thanks Twilight fans

Bill Condon, the director of the last two films in The Twilight Saga, has written a very sweet, sincere letter thanking fans of the series for their dedication, which was posted on the official Twilight Saga Facebook page.

'Breaking Dawn' director Bill Condon pens message to 'Twilight' fans

Greetings to our global Twihard family,

On the flight now from Madrid to Berlin, I wanted to check in one last time, as you’re finally getting a look at what we’ve all been working on so intensely.  It’s hard to believe that after our Berlin premiere tonight, my TWILIGHT journey will finally come to a close.  It’s been almost three years since I first wrote to you.  I’m very proud of what we’ve created together since then, and I hope that PART II fulfills your expectations for the grand finale to Stephenie’s sprawling saga. Fingers crossed that you’ve also managed to stay at least mostly spoiler-free, in order to enjoy the twists and parting gifts we have in store for you…

Thank you again for making me feel like a member of your fandom family online…for sleeping in The Line in San Diego in order to laugh with us in Hall H…for traveling great distances to join us in L.A. for last year’s Tent City and this year’s Fan Camp.  Above all, thank you for trusting me with this universe you care so deeply about – we tried to match your intensity in our attention to every detail.  That said, I don’t think I’ll ever live down the shame of being spied on by Twihard covens around the world on our very first night of shooting in Rio.  Thanks to photos shot and instantly posted online of Bella and Edward on their honeymoon, we were called out in real time for missing a certain engagement ring…  (Sorry — again!)

As with you all, what I’ll take with me from my time in Forks are so many great friendships – our massive cast of talented actors, and new creative partners such as Melissa Rosenberg, Guillermo Navarro and Phil Tippett.  I hope to know them all for years and to work with them again soon, making movies yet to be dreamed up.  At the L.A. premiere Monday night, Phil said we should make a “bloody, giant monster movie.”  But is there room for a musical number?

See you at the theatre.

Forever,
Bill

25 Most Powerful Authors: Stephenie Meyer on Why the Twilight Movies Almost Didn’t Happen

Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer was named #10 on The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Most Powerful Authors List, for which she gave a great interview about writing, film, and how the reaction to all things Twilight is certainly “not normal”!

In particular, she talks about how the Twilight movie almost get made because the original script was so horrendously bad, Stephenie initially refused to sell the rights back to Summit after their temporary acquisition had expired:

THR: What was different about it?

SM: FBI, boat chases, night vision goggles, Bella with a gun. Yeah, it was crazy. At the time — once you give away your rights you can’t object to the changes. It was just kind of like, ‘ahh!’ And then they didn’t make it and they let the rights come back, and it was like, ‘OK, I’m taking this home and no one’s ever touching it again.’ Then Erik Feig (former president of worldwide production and acquisitions at Summit, now president of production at Lionsgate) called and said, ‘Please we’ll do anything. We really want to make your story.’ It’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ve heard that before.’ And he’s like, ‘No, no,’ and he let me come up with a rider where I wrote all these things that couldn’t change. They were like, ‘Yes, we’ll do it’ and I was like, ‘Oh, OK, well then I guess you really do want to make it as it is. That’s cool.’

THR: What were the things you said they couldn’t change?

SM: Well I mean, I was in the middle of writing the series at that point in time so one of the big things is in that original script, Charlie got killed at the end. So, they couldn’t kill anyone that dies in the books unless you create a character to kill — which if you look back through the movies, you’ll see where they’ve created new people so that they can off somebody. Then there were things like, Bella cannot be a vampire until she does in the novels — cause that also happened [in the first script] — and just all these things that I felt like if they really wanted to go and do something completely different, they would look at it and say, ‘OK, nevermind.’ If they looked at this long list of things and said, ‘OK, we can do this,’ then I would figure, ‘OK, they’re not messing with me.’

How the ‘Breaking Dawn’ Finale Plot Twist Came to Be

If you’ve already seen Breaking Dawn Part 2, you know that the ending is much different than the original book!

The Hollywood Reporter talked to Stephenie Meyer, Melissa Rosenberg, and Bill Condon about how Stephenie came up with the new ending (over a steak dinner in Vancouver!) and what it means for the final film.

Here’s Melissa Roseberg’s account:

“[Meyer], at the time, was debating whether or not she wanted the fourth book to be a movie because she was concerned that the ending in the book climaxes at a very tense conversation, which was beautiful in the book — but for film, that’s not going to fly,” she continues. “We started batting around ideas and then we both had this idea at the same. I think she may have mentioned something first, ‘OK, this may be stupid, but what about this?’ And I was like, ‘What about that!’ And it was one of those moments; the light bulb came on, and we both suddenly got incredibly excited about it. That was it, we were both on board.”

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 World Premiere Base Camp

The amount of tents here is ridiculous. The pictures doesn’t even include another tent site that’s on top of a parking structure.

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 Fan Camp

In comparison to the Hunger Games fan camp, this is at least 10x bigger. Seriously.

For all of us, or maybe most of us, they handed out free copies of both Divergent and Ender’s Game books, which is nice.

[The event coordinators at Summit] have a schedule planned out. First thing this morning was a workout session hosted by Jamba Juice. They had a free screening of Twilight last night. Tonight will be screenings of New Moon and then Eclipse.

Here is a banner that is on my friends’ tent. We all love Lee Pace. :)
